Some time in TreeHugger.com (where I work) left a post on the expenditure of energy that produce white screens, which looked as if the substance of the popular search engine Google.com black outside, could save 750 megawatt-hours per year.
The reason is that a page with a white background uses 74 watts to be exposed while a black background makes it only 59. In response, the Australian company Heap Media (which has few sites of various themes) launched Blackle.com, a search engine supported by Google Custom Search that provides homepage and search results pages with a black background.
Then of course, have given as my home page, I found it interesting to note that in addition to the possible energy savings (since there are skeptics who say that this does not work), is highly recommended for the visual fatigue. I pass hours in front of the computer and see a page rests with dark background, so I recommend doing the same.
