Special global warming of Time magazine.

As I mention in my profile, among other things, I am a correspondent for Buenos Aires on the site TreeHugger.com sustainable lifestyle and I'm trying almost always against the will of Augustine, to be more green every day.

Unfortunately I feel that in Argentina there is still a perception that being green or wanting to take actions with environmental consciousness is a hippie or boring, and therefore does not encounter this issue of sites that attract me (perhaps that should be changed if the site is launched for that I offered to write).

Anyway, if someone comes through here looking for just that I thought of sharing some tips from Survival Guide, or Survival Guide to Time magazine published a few weeks ago as part of its special edition on global warming (in the United States, where they are proliferating special editions with this theme in almost all the higher-publications, known as Green issue).

My intention is to translate all that I believe apply to Argentina, but I start with a few. I hope they would feel they do something for the planet:

# 2: Why how we walk home?

The energy consumed in homes is responsible for 16% of the greenhouse gases emitted by the United States (in Argentina, therefore, must also be considerable). To reduce the impact of a house, the main thing is to avoid the artificial climate control: control the heat, air and moisture sealing doors and windows; control the temperature and radiation openings with double glazing, and-as far as possible, take advantage of ventilation Crusade (opening windows on the front and back of the house). Put on a sweater before you turn on the heating and open windows before you turn on the air are essential.

# 3: Change your lights.

This is something that in addition to basic save energy, save money by changing the conventional lights low. Though more expensive, saving up to 75% of energy and last several years. A tip: the warm light that they say are the most resemble the common bulbs, and to a large room we need that consumes 26W and is equivalent to 100w.

# 7: crash a rope for clothes.

No matter how organic cotton is a shirt or how the material is recycled, the environmental quality of clothing is measured by how they are washed. To reduce the impact of the clothes you can start by washing with cold water or warm rather than hot (saving the energy used to heat the water), sending large loads to laverrap (avoiding the waste of water), choose places that have new machines (certainly more efficient), and once washed, as far as possible to dry clothes in a natural way, without-dry clothes. With all this can be reduced by 90% carbon (the main gas generator of the ozone layer) generated by the laundry.
