Thanks to the role of Statistics Wordpress, I realized that several people come to this blog looking for "what to tackle climate change" or similar expressions. That is, looking for actions to reduce its impact on the phenomenon of global warming.
Therefore, I decided to use my experience writing for TreeHugger.com and give a couple of tracks. I have yet to do my own little resource manual, adapted to the possibilities of Argentina, but unfortunately I won the time. Anyway, I think that what follows is to begin.
To begin with a definition, according to the site stopglobalwarming (part of the initiative of former U.S. vice president, Al Gore), global warming is the effect caused by carbon dioxide trapped in the atmosphere, which keeps the heat inside of it instead of letting it be removed into outer space.
If it continues to accumulate heat, the consequences are what we hear every day: sea level rise, extreme temperatures, and so on. Thus, in the ways they can help since each one is reducing the so-called carbon footprint that is on the planet: the emissions of carbon dioxide they release the goods and services consumed.
The live trying to reduce that footprint (and in some extreme cases, it is deleted altogether) is what is called lifestyle verde (green lifestyle) in the United States, which has grown enormously in recent years.
Fans of the emissions calculations can find a link to the carbon for everything: even recently came to say that walking up a shop is worse for climate change to handle because the food they need to replenish the calories expenditure driving requires more emissions that fuel it spends a vehicle. Such things are highly debatable, but keep talking forever it seems to me impractical. Is perhaps better to focus on basic things that one can do without too much pressure and mass, have an impact.
On the other hand, it is worth remembering that global warming and ecology, or general care for all aspects of the environment have many points in common but also many stories. When one begins to be interested in these subjects, sometimes appear too many things that are of concern, paralyze and even discouraged (in Argentina). The key in my opinion is not despair, start with something, so we can do today, then if one is interested in extending its activities, can hope to support and participate in organizations.
The first step to entering what would MTV Switch. This site was built by the MTV music channel and several advertising agencies, and has a small guide in Spanish, English and French with a number of concrete actions. Some examples: Lower the heat, do not leave the equipment in standby, boiled only the amount of water you use for coffee, turn off lights that do not use, switch to energy-saving lamps, wash clothes with cold water, Buying local food.
At the site of this initiative can be found why some of these actions and more.
For those who know English, I surf the Green Guides How to go from TreeHugger.
These are documents that offers ten easy tips on how to be greener "on various topics. For example, you can start with the basics to begin to be more green and then continue with specific aspects such as transportation and energy they are using, your personal care, or doing less on gifts to impact the environment.
Could bring some more but I think this is fine for now. I promise to come back with things more focused in Argentina. I invite you to comment on resources available, especially if they know any Spanish.
