Through the site of the Centro Cultural Borges, who yesterday visited the exhibition of World Press Photo, I learned that at this site is running a photo exhibit of works by the Sicilian architect Francisco Salamone.
This architect was marked by impressive buildings have performed in various locations in the interior of the province of Buenos Aires, atypical places for avant-garde architecture.
Most of his works (churches, cemeteries, government buildings, plazas and slaughterhouses) were performed between 1936 and 1940 and still seem very modern. This picture illustrates that the post is an example of what can be seen in towns like Blue and Laprida: a monumental building in the middle of nowhere.
I knew the work of this architect obviously through Augustine, when Easter we went through the towns of Blue, and Balcarce Laprida to see their works, and it is precisely because they have been seen in person that I recommend the sample (and obviously for the tour that they can). The photo I took the top (of the church is Laprida), but fails to impress as being there in person, only notice the proportion of the gate with the figure of Jesus and maybe you begin to understand the magnitude. In the middle of the field.
Google to search for information I found this very interesting note published in Radar. Probably the best exposure has many photos. It lasts until Nov. 15, at the Centro Cultural Borges (Viamonte esq. San Martin).
Hours: Monday to Saturday from 10 to 21 and Sundays from 12 to 21. The general admission is $ 8 and $ 5 for students and retirees.

Paula Alvarado added these words: 05 Nov 07 at 9:45 pmLook vos Pablo, you were not as knowledgeable of architecture! jaja
It is true what you mention and indeed his work began under the dictatorship of Uriburu, but getting it is very interesting that the rate has had such a vision at that time ... Even now works seem very modern.

Paula Alvarado said these words on 18 Nov 07 at 11:55 a.m.Hi Claudia, thank you for your comment! I'm missing half for work but will revert to publish things next week when the festival ends for which I am working.
The city you mention was one that we could not get us when we did the "tour", but it says that is what has some of the best works ..
Greetings!
Marcelo added these words on 20 Nov 07 at 10:24 PMHey, Paula. Very interesting to your blog. And also I have personally seen the work of Salamone. In fact, I went to Blue and exprsamente Laprida to see and photograph.
It is something unique in the world, and not exaggerate: such buildings are usually in urban centers, not lost in the middle of the field.
I leave you a kiss and a link to my blog, where story a little more of the matter: http://www.metayer.com.ar
Gerardo Rubinstein said these words on 21 Jan 08 at 1:21 pmI see that there are many people interested in Salamone. And I became addicted and found no other works by him in the Pampa of Pcia Bs. As. The principal of Villa Maria is the work of him. I discovered to my wife that what was the Mercado La Cumbre (bath) and he is currently operating a restaurant is called "Mrs anybody." I'm pretty sure it could not be confirmed officially that the cinema of Capilla del Monte currently Enrique Muiño called, was built by him, as well as film of Cosquín. In the Punilla Valley, where he ran as a Radical senator, I think there are several works, in La Falda (pharmacy and service station). In a small town Juan Posse, an arcade there are very similar to that of Blue (tahys park), although much smaller than the entrance to Centenary Club.
If there is confirmation I expansion of such data, thanks. Ah, I olvidava, The City of Las Rosas (Pcia Santa Fe), Salamone is not about imposing nor the location of its preponderant other municipalities.
